Easy Bacon Meal Ideas

Blog

Heritage Tamworth pigs have long been known as a "bacon" breed, and the meat they produce can be found at gourmet and specialty food retailers. If you have some of the salty, flavorful bacon on hand via a company such as SP Ranches, you can use it to make a wide variety of meals. Although bacon is typically eaten at breakfast, there are many tasty ways you can work the crispy strips into lunches and dinners as well.

Since bacon is a rich, fatty meat, it's best to use it in moderation, but a little can go a long way. The meat's smoky flavor lends itself well to both light, fresh meals, such as sandwiches and salads, and to hearty sauces and soups.

Following are some ways that you can serve up your Heritage Tamworth pork bacon:

Breakfast

Everyone knows that bacon and eggs go together like peanut butter and jelly, but you can also serve the salty meat alongside pancakes and waffles for a delicious sweet-and-salty combo. You can also work small pieces of fried bacon into the batter for an unexpected treat.

As a creative twist that your family members can enjoy on the go, make sandwiches by placing a fried egg and bacon strips between two pancakes or waffles. Drizzle maple syrup over the bacon and egg as a sweet touch.

As a special morning treat, such as on a holiday, whip up a light and fluffy quiche using a prepared crust, eggs, bite-size pieces of fried bacon, and any type of sautéed vegetables you'd like, such as onions, green peppers, or zucchini.

Lunch

Bacon, lettuce and tomato, or BLT, sandwiches are common lunch options, but you can mix things up with a few creative ingredients. To make the sandwiches even more filling, you can layer slices of avocado among the other ingredients as well.

Another innovative take on the classic BLT is using French bread instead of the usual toast. If you prefer to eat a salad for lunch instead of a sandwich, make a BLT pasta salad. Place cold corkscrew or bow-tie noodles into a large bowl and mix in crispy bacon pieces, sliced cherry tomatoes, and arugula. Mix in any creamy dressing of your choice, such as blue cheese or ranch.

Dinner

For an easy weekday meal, heat up your favorite cream of tomato soup and top each bowl with crumbled bacon, croutons, and a few butter lettuce leaves for a fresh crunch. As another idea, you can also add smoky crumbled bacon to a thick and hearty pot of potato soup or clam chowder.

You can also include the salty meat in a butternut-squash carbonara sauce served over pasta, crumble it top of a pizza, or work it into homemade macaroni and cheese or any type of casserole.

Choosing Better Specialty Vendors

After my restaurant got a few negative reviews, I knew that I needed to turn things around. To figure out what the problem was, I had our chefs make each item on our menu from scratch over a period of a few days. As I tried each dish, I made notes about the taste, textures, and impression of each dish, and when I was finished I knew what we needed to change. I decided to hire a new specialty foods vendor to provide our breads, meats, and produce, and it made a huge difference. This website might help you to know what to look for in a food vendor, so that you can improve your own business.
